A Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) has been created consisting of senior faculty from Harvard Medical School science and clinical departments and from the Gulf Region. The Advisory Board members are responsible for designing and monitoring the success of scientific and clinical programs relating to the Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research and its mission. All program proposals and recommendations will be submitted to the Board of Trustees by the SAC for ratification.
Members of the Scientific Advisory Committee are appointed for two-to three-year renewable terms by the Board of Trustees. The Committee meets three times per year and is required to review proposals, grant applications and funding requests. The Committee provides oversight for the Foundation’s funding initiatives and research program opportunities, establishing guidelines for the competitive process.
The Scientific Advisory Committee will also be responsible for helping to establish a Regional Advisory Committee and ad hoc grant review committees. The Regional Advisory Committee will have a rotating membership of internationally renowned scientists from the Gulf Region, and who will meet at HMSDC, and will be responsible for providing strategic input into the grants programs that are appropriate for the region and will also provide support for the grant selection process. The Grant Review Committees will be tasked with peer review of grant applicants and will be formed as required for each of the grant program. Decisions from the Grant Review Committees will be reviewed by the SAC prior to making the final recommendation to the Board of Trustees.
