A Road-Map for Medical Education examined undergraduate and post-graduate medical education positioned to respond to this demand and growth; a Unitary Medical Education model that can stimulate viable, population-appropriate training and research; and public health policy that can respond to the demand for quality healthcare and to health issues identified by researchers as public health priorities. Regional and international experts focused on these four areas: • Building on the current national and regional standards in undergraduate, graduate and continuing medical education • Investigating models for a basic, comprehensive core curriculum focused on an outcome-based medical education and learner-centered teaching • Creating an environment for talent: how to harness rapid developments in science and technology and apply them to regionally relevant research • Establishing a model for long term investment in medical education and research and their interaction with public health healthcare delivery
