The Board
of Trustees is responsible for the overall
strategic direction of the Foundation and the ratification
of all programs.
The Board is chaired by Jeffrey S. Flier, M.D., Dean of Harvard Medical School. Incorporation and governance documents for the Foundation are drawn up within Massachusetts State Law and in accordance with laws governing charitable foundations within the United Arab Emirates.
A Scientific
Advisory Committee (SAC) consists of
senior faculty from Harvard Medical School science
and clinical departments and representatives from
the Gulf Region’s medical and scientific community.
These Committee members are responsible for designing
and monitoring the success of scientific and clinical
programs relating to the Dubai Harvard Foundation
for Medical Research and its mission. All program
proposals and recommendations are submitted to the
Board of Trustees by the SAC for ratification.
SAC is also responsible for supporting the establishment
of a Regional Advisory Committee and Grant Review
Committees. The Regional Advisory Committee has a
rotating membership of internationally renowned scientists
from the Gulf Region and is responsible for providing
strategic input into the grants programs and supporting
the review process. The Grant Review Committees will
be tasked with peer review of grant applicants and
will be formed as required for each of the grant program.
Decisions from the Grant Review Committees will be
reviewed by the Regional Advisory Committee and the
SAC.
SAC is also responsible for supporting the establishment
