Why Get Involved?
What biomedical discoveries have the potential to
change the way medicine is practiced, and enhance
the well-being of our friends and families? What innovative
methods and technologies hold the key to bringing
the next cure, or a better treatment, within our reach?
Scientists are pursuing these questions in laboratories
around the world, and health care professionals in
every specialty are working to apply the latest medical
knowledge to everyday practice.
In Dubai, this pursuit of progress can be seen in
the intense efforts to create robust health care delivery
systems and provide state-of-the-art medical education
programs to foster the development of the health care
workforce. Dubai’s ambitious mission aims to
create a sustainable community of physicians, scientists,
and students, to make high-quality health care available
in local medical centers, and, ultimately, to restore
the Gulf Region to prominence as an international
center for scientific inquiry and discovery.
The Foundation was established to support this mission
by generating and awarding the resources to support
scientific investigation, providing guidance in the
development of academic programs aligned with regional
need, and helping to foster collaborations between
scientists all over the world, with the ultimate goal
of creating groundbreaking discoveries that advance
medical practice.
“The
creation of the Foundation is a critical step
towards establishing an academic centre for
scientific research and discovery, and reaching
for solutions to the most important healthcare
problems affecting our people and their families.
I encourage others to join me in this mission.”

Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

The strategic relationship between the
Government of Dubai and Harvard Medical School is
designed to be a magnet to attract the best training,
research, and health care practices to the Gulf and
Middle East Region. The scope for research is broad,
and will take full advantage of the extensive global
network of expert faculty, researchers, and educators
at Harvard Medical School and Harvard University.
Financial support of the Foundation
offers philanthropists the opportunity to drive biomedical
research in a number of critical disease areas, including
cancer, cardiovascular disease, and neurological disorders
affecting children, among others. Founder Members
are invited to join the Foundation Council, and will
take their place beside a small number of like-minded
individuals who share the vision of establishing Dubai
as a center of medical excellence.
